TESTING EFFECTS OF CHROMIUM PLATING ON POWDER GASES EROSION RESISTANCE

Bore surface protection by chromium plating is performed in order to increase ballistic life cycle of tubes and to make their maintenance easier. The powder gases erosion resistance of nozzles protected by chromium plating was tested. Protection was carried out under different conditions of surface preparation, plating precipitation and further treatment. The testing results indicate the increase of resistance to powder gases erosion in nozzles protected by chromium plating when compared to nozzles without the protection. Based on the testing results analysis and the applied percipitation conditions, the chromium plating protection was chosen because of the best resistance to erosion effects of powder gases.
