Abstract: The stability and integrity of the state are closely related to the state and development potential of the defense industry, as one of the pillars of economic, technical and technological development. The basic elements of the defense industry in the field of research, development, production, repair and testing of weapons and military equipment are of strategic importance to every developed society. The rapid development and integration of this industry into the flows of national and international economies through the acquisition of new technologies has been recognized as an essential element of national security policy. In the context of global threats, the development of society and the strengthening of national security should be directed towards overcoming technological lag and achieving technological development levels through the development and adoption of new technologies that ensure the rapid development of the defense industry and its integration into the flows of national and international economies. The paper gives an overview of modern concepts for managing the performance of business and defense systems in order to create the basis for creating a vision for the development of an integrated performance management model within the defense technology and industrial base of the Republic of Serbia.
