SONARS FOR DETECTING SMALL SUBMERGED OBJECTS
AND DEFINING THEIR SHAPES

Abstract: Sonar for detecting small-submerged objects and defining their shapes operate at relatively high frequencies, higher than few hundred kilohertz, in order obtain the narrow beams and short pulse lengths required to reduce the reverberation accompanying echoes. The main principles of such types of sonar are discussed. In addition, principles for obtaining narrow beams are discussed and particular attention is directed to parametric acoustic radiator.
