Abstract: The influence of number and holes diameter to the mass efficiency and ballistic performance of perforated Hardox-450 steel plates was investigated. Target mounting was varied between vertical and oblique. Perforated plates with different geometries were tested: diameters and distances between holes were changed. Their behavior was tested using impact from firing 12.7 mm M-8 API ammunition at four perforated plate samples. These samples were placed by means of a steel frame over a 13 mm RHA plate, at two distances. Damaged area on targets was correlated to ballistic resistance of the whole armor to find the optimal perforated plate configuration. It was found that perforated plates offer two effects: yaw the projectile and impact the basic plate sideways as well as fracture of the penetrating core
