Abstract: There are several PKI architectures in governmental and commercial sectors in the Republic of Serbia. These PKI architectures are not connected thus causing the problem in trust establishment among users originating from different PKI architectures. This paper suggests a solution for establishment of the central bridge certification body for the purpose of trust establishment among existing and future PKI architectures in the Republic of Serbia, as well as for the purpose of trust establishment with PKI architectures of other countries. The paper presents the comparative analysis of advantages and disadvantages of hybrid PKI architectures, as well as the comparative analysis of these architectures based on the following criteria: trust, certification paths, scalability and failure of architecture. Having in mind these comparative analyses, the authors offer a suggestion for solution of national PKI architecture in the Republic of Serbia.
