Digital representation of terrain has been an important focus in geography and surveying sciences for many decades. This article presents how the simulated digital elevation model (DEM) uncertainty affects common terrain analyses, such as slope and aspect calculations. In this article, the DEM of Avala test area was simulated on the basis of the Monte Carlo stochastic simulation. The purpose of this study is to generate multiple DEMs using error propagation techniques, then derive nitrogen storage for simulated DEM, and finally evaluate how the propagated uncertainty correlates to various topographic parameters, such as slope, aspect and wathershed delineation.

Key words: geographical information system, topography, terrain analysis, stochastic analysis, Monte Carlo method.
