DETERMINATION OF THE SAMPLE SIZE FOR A GIVEN CONFIDENCE INTERVAL OF THE EVENT PROBABILITY

  Brkić M. Dragoljub

There is proposed one method for determining the sample size, n, for a given confidence interval, I,of the probability p=P(A) of the value of the random variable [0,1] falling in to the observed class of histogram, where X is obtained by transformation of another random variable t which may or may not have an uniform distribution. The given confidence interval is measure of the precision by which is stated the fitting of the exactly supposed theoretical distribution function into histogram (empirical distribution function), and the sample size n is the number of values of the observed random variable, necessary for achieving the specified precision. The application of the suggested method is illustrated by one example.
