STRAIN RATE EFFECT ON MECHANICAL PRO-PERTIES OF SOLID ROCKET PROPELLANTS

Radun Jeremić

Behaviour of solid rocket propellants at different strain rates was investigated. For several types of rocket propellants, strain rate dependence on the modulus, maximum stress and maximum strain, in temperature interval from –80 to +50ºC, was obtained. The results indicate that the mechanical properties of rocket propellants are highly dependent on strain rate. It is shown that the time-temperature superposition principle can be used for prediction of mechanical properties of rocket propellants in wide intervals of temperatures and strain rates, and especially for existing conditions during rocket motor ignition.
