PERFORATED WALLS CHARACTERISTICS AND THE LINEARIZATION METHOD APPLIED TO EXPERIMENTAL CHA-RACTERISTICS OF AIRFLOW PASSING THROUGH PERFO-RATED WALLS OF THE TRANSONIC WIND TUNNEL TEST SECTION

Simulation of free flight conditions in transonic wind tunnels is possible if these conditions are identical to those on the wind tunnel test section walls. Boundary conditions determining airflow in the wind tunnel test section are imposed by flying vehicle geometry and conditions of free airflow. It should be said, however, that it is impossible to carry out a complete free-flight simulation the model should be reduced to unacceptably small dimensions, or the wind tunnel test  section size should be increased which would result in higher cost of  testing. The paper discusses wind tunnel test section walls with ventilation, which provide free flight conditions by changeable wall porosity or by changing pressure in the wind tunnel test section chamber.
