THE ROLE OF TECHNICAL INTELLIGENCE IN COLLECTING INTELLIGENCE INFORMATION

Mladen Bajagić

Apstrakt:

Modern intelligence services are characterized by the diversity of information collecting methods. Taking into account  the traditional intelligence methods, such as clandestine collecting done by agents and open sources intelligence, this paper gives special focus to the technical intelligence viz. the technical intelligence collecting discipline. There are several significant collecting sub-disciplines developed in the frame of technical method based on applying the latest technical and technological scientific achievements as well as information and communication scientific achievements,  in the first place remote sensing and advanced computer concepts. In this regard, this paper deals with the detailed analysis of some technical intelligence collecting disciplines such as SIGINT (Signal Intelligence), ELINT (Electronic Intelligence), COMINT (Communication Intelligence), GEOINT (Geospatial Intelligence), MASINT (Measurement and Signature Intelligence), IMINT (Imagery Intelligence), TELINT (Telemetry Intelligence), etc. Further, the paper contains the analysis of the modern sensor and radar systems and satellites helping in obtaining technical intelligence by using remote sensing. Finally, the paper indicates  to space law, namely to the issue of using space for peaceful or military purposes, taking into account that only the countries highly developed in the technical and information sense are able to effectuate the technical method, via which they virtually come into possession of the technological and information superiority over the rest of the world.

Key words: intelligence, information collecting, technical intelligence, information technology, electronic systems, information systems, electronic warfare, space law.
