Abstract

This information is the result of software defined radios (SDR) in tactical military communications. SDR is new technology which is becoming crucial for further development of the radio. This issue, however, cannot be viewed in isolation, detached from other areas whose dynamical trend has speeded up the development of SDR: digital signal processing, digital signal processors, programmable logical circuits, quick A/D converters, smart antenna technology and new digital radio architecture. All these have been presented in a few thematic areas crucial in further research of SDR.
Main definitions and concepts of potential SDR architecture, achievements and trends in the digital signal, A/D converters and smart antennae processing that
ought to ensure better SDR operation have been presented. It has been concluded that SDR is a relatively young technology supposed to overcome numerous technological imitations in the future, starting with slow A/D converters and digital signal processors.

Key words: radio, software defined radio, digital system processing, digital
signal processor, A/D converter, smart antenna, communication systems, military telecommunications.
