DETERMINATION OF THE MAXIMUM FLOW THROUGH AN EARTH DAM PROFILE CAUSED BY ITS DESTRUCTION

Abstract
This work deals with risks of destroying earth dams. A numerical modelling of a wave developing with the gradual destruction of an earth dam has been done. The author has given an explanation of the problem of estimating the maximum flow through the profile of an earth dam depending on duration and scope of destruction as well as the problem of determining the way to mitigate the wave impact downstream, depending on terrain configuration. The question has been answered concerning the accuracy of a simplified calculation model compared to the model of numerical solving of complete equations of uneven water flow in a natural, non-prismatic waterbed.
