FUNDAMENTAL AERODYNAMICS PROBLEMS HAVING INFLUENCED THE DEVELOPMENT OF TRANSONIC WIND TUNNELS

Borivoj Đ. Blizanac

Abstract

Transonic wind tunnels are complex installations for aerodynamic testing of aircraft models within the subsonic, transonic and supersonic ranges of speeds. Airflow through the wind tunnel during model testing is complex process characterized by aerodynamic phenomena. This complexity is evident particularly when cinstant test conditions are necessary to be provided without jeopardizing the existing model dynamics, which requires good knowledge of the airflow process in the wind tunnel. The scientific-technical informationtreats the airflow phenomena in the range of transonic speed which have significantly influenced the development of transonic wind tunnels.

Key words: Wind tunnel, Transonic wind tunnel, Airflow, Airflow around the profile, transonic airflow
