TECHNICAL DIAGNOSTICS AND ITS APPLICATION IN AERONAUTICS

Dragoljub Vujić

Abstract
Basic diagnostic systems applied in aircraft are presented. Diagnostic systems of turbojet engines of military and civil aircraft are discussed in particular since they are the basis of a modern, generally accepted on condition maintenance concept. A concept of turbojet engine digital electronic control, as a ground for operating engine diagnostic systems in real time, is also explained. In a frame of modern sophisticated diagnostic systems are considered intelligence systems based on neural networks and expert systems which can achieve full failures detection with zero percent fault alarms. It is pointed out to the development of advanced softwares for computer maintenance control. Examples are given of a new generation of developed softwares, which through interactive communication with computers help users to find a scenario of incoming failure and expert advice on a manner of performing necesary maintenance activities. It is shown that, owing to development of computer and telecommunication technologies, computer based maintenance systems evoluate more and more into Web-based integrated information maintenance systems.

Key words: aeronautics, aircraft, aircraft engine, turbojet engine, aircraft maintenance, technical m intenance, diagnostics, failure diagnostics, expert system, neural network.
