WIND TUNNEL APPLICATION IN THE RESEARCH OF HIGH SPEED TRAINS

Abstract

Problems that occur due to the increasing of speed are described. A review of experimental studies in aerodynamics of trains of great speeds during their motion on open tracks, the passing by of trains on open tracks, the motion of a train and the passing by of trains in a tunnel is given, as well as the influence of air wave caused by the movement of train upon smaller objects in the vicinity of the trains. There are also presented experimental researches of train models carried out in our country. Motion of a train is simulated and passing by of two trains on open tracks, too. Results of the experiment are compared to the theoretical calculation showing agreement for the case of solo driving on open tracks. Sugestions for further researches are given.
